ACAP is a community advocacy group formed in 1993 with the
support of Environment Canada under the Atlantic Coastal Action Program
to address environmental issues affecting the quality of our natural
resources with a particular emphasis on St. John's Harbour, and the
watersheds and coastal areas of the Northeast Avalon in an area defined
by the Witless Bay Line that runs from Holyrood to Witless Bay, and
north to Cape St. Francis.
• ACAP provides a forum where elected board members, the public, and personnel from all three levels of government can meet to openly discuss environmental issues. • In 1997, the ACAP Comprehensive Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) identified environmental concerns and potential engineering solutions for St. John's Harbour. • ACAP was instrumental in helping to secure $93 million committment in funding from all three levels of government for the STP in St. John's Harbour. •
In 2003 The CEMP was revised to expand St. John's ACAP's boundary
and more accurately reflect it's areas of interest. Northeast Avalon ACAP's Board of Directors Our Board of Directors are comprised of area residents who share a common concern for the protection of our natural environment and may either be members elected for a two-year term at an annual general meeting, or are government appointed, non-voting directors who represent their respective jurisdictions.
